Dog Days in the Pacific Northwest

A Wimpy Kid’s Film Location Adventure

Metro Vancouver’s diverse landscapes provided the perfect backdrop for Greg Heffley’s summer adventures in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. This itinerary takes you on a journey through the vibrant city and breathtaking natural beauty that shaped the film.

From rollercoaster rides to pizza-filled heart-to-hearts, you’ll experience the fun, the laughs, and the mayhem of Greg’s world. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even find a little bit of your own wimpy moments along the way!

Practical Considerations

Vancouver’s weather can change quickly, so pack layers and rain gear. Many locations, like Eagle Ridge Pool and Playland, have specific operating hours and seasons, so check their websites before visiting. This itinerary works best with a car, though some locations are accessible by public transit.

SUBURBAN OASIS

Start your journey at Pitt Meadows’ Swaneset Bay Resort & Country Club. The massive clubhouse, with its distinctive architecture and mountain backdrop, is instantly recognizable from the film.

While the resort is private, the public restaurant offers breakfast with stunning views of the Golden Ears mountains. The surrounding lowlands, part of the traditional territory of the Katzie First Nation, were once a complex network of waterways vital for salmon fishing and cranberry harvesting.

A short 20-minute drive brings you to Eagle Ridge Pool in Port Moody, where several of the film’s most memorable swimming scenes were captured. The pool is operated seasonally and typically opens at 10 AM, and morning visits tend to be less crowded. The facility maintains much of the same appearance as seen in the film, making it a must-visit for fans.

Motels & MEGA RIDES

Next, head to 2400 Motel (previously named 2400 Court) area in East Vancouver, a popular filming spot that set the stage for a heartfelt moment between Greg and Frank as they bonded over pizza during their wilderness weekend.

While the motel itself has hosted many productions, the surrounding neighborhood is packed with great dining options. For lunch or dinner, check out The Tipper Restaurant, where you’ll find delicious comfort food, craft pints, and a lively atmosphere that regularly hosts live music and events.

While the once-iconic Corkscrew roller coaster and The Revelation (called “Cranium Shaker” in the movie) are now retired, the park still delivers plenty of thrills. As night falls, Playland’s glowing neon lights create the perfect photo backdrop, and shorter evening lines mean more time for fun. Before heading out, grab a bag of mini donuts that even Rowley would approve of.

Wrap up your day with some excitement at Playland, open from late spring through summer (typically May to September, with exact dates varying). This classic amusement park plays a starring role in Dog Days, with the boardwalk scene showcasing its high-energy atmosphere.
