Everything Is Connected
A Dirk Gently Fan’s Guide to Vancouver & BEyond

Just as Dirk Gently believes in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, this guide will take you on a journey through Vancouver and its surroundings, where the weird and wonderful world of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency came to life. This itinerary is designed to be spread across two days, though you could certainly extend it if you wish to explore more deeply.
Beyond the Set
While not filming locations, several Vancouver experiences capture the spirit of the show. Visit the Vancouver Police Museum(https://www.vancouverpolicemuseum.ca/) for a dose of real-life detective history. The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre(https://www.spacecentre.ca/) offers cosmic perspectives that might help you understand the universe’s interconnectedness. For those interested in paranormal investigation, join a Lost Souls of Gastown tour(https://forbiddenvancouver.ca/lost-souls-of-gastown-vancouver-tour/) to discover the eerie history of Vancouver’s oldest neighborhood..
For dining, consider the Dark Table(http://www.darktable.ca/) restaurant, where you dine in complete darkness – an experience that might help you develop your own holistic intuition.
Remember, as Dirk would say, everything is connected. This itinerary is just a framework – allow yourself to be open to the universe’s guidance, follow interesting leads, and don’t be afraid to take unexpected detours. Just be sure to respect private property, follow posted signs, and maintain natural areas. After all, the best detective work often happens when you’re not looking for it.
Day 1: OUT AND ABOUT IN Vancouver

Morning: Stanley Park Explorations
Begin your journey at Stanley Park, which served as multiple locations in Season 1. The former Vancouver Zoo area within Stanley Park was used as the Seattle Zoo in episodes like “Very Erectus” and “Weaponized Soul.” While the zoo is no longer there, Stanley Park offers plenty to explore. Take a stroll along the Seawall, the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path, with stunning views of the ocean and mountains.
Stop by Lost Lagoon, a serene spot where you might spot herons, swans, and even the occasional raccoon and visit the famous Totem Poles, showcasing the rich Indigenous heritage of the region.tContinue to Hallelujah Point, where Detective Estevez’s poignant scene with Lydia Spring (in corgi form) was filmed. This peaceful spot offers stunning views of the harbor and is perfect for contemplative moments.
For lunch, make your way down Georgia Street to the Fable Diner, where Farah, Dirk, and Todd had their meaningful conversation about starting their detective agency. This modern diner serves up contemporary comfort food made from local ingredients in a setting that maintains its vintage charm.

Afternoon: Downtown Adventures
Head to the iconic Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, which served as the exterior of the Perryman Grand. This building is one of Vancouver’s architectural treasures and remains publicly accessible. While you can’t recreate Todd’s unfortunate work experiences, you can admire the spectacular lobby’s intricate details.

Morning: Vancouver Art Gallery
The Vancouver Art Gallery played a role in the series and provides a perfect post-lunch stroll. While the filming location may have been brief, the gallery’s neoclassical architecture and rotating exhibitions make it worth exploring. The building itself, a former courthouse, has its own fascinating history of mystery and intrigue.
From there, make your way to the Plaza of Nations area along False Creek, where several waterfront scenes were filmed. This area is part of the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation, who are currently developing the area into Senákw, which will be the largest First Nations economic development project in Canadian history. The development’s unique design incorporates Indigenous principles of living in harmony with the natural environment – a philosophy that might appeal to Dirk’s holistic worldview.
From there, make your way back to Main Street for a DIY microbrew pub crawl. Nearly a dozen craft beer pubs are located within a 15 minute walk – the nearest being the aptly named Main Street Brewing.

EVENING: PLEASANT NEIGHBOURHOOD Wandering
Channel Dirk’s belief in the interconnectedness of all things by taking a “holistic” approach to exploring the city. Start at Dude Chilling Park (actually called Guelph Park, but officially renamed after a public art installation), which served as the Springborough Tunnels entrance in the show. This quirky park perfectly captures the series’ offbeat spirit.
Day 2: Riverview Hospital Grounds and Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve

Morning: Riverview Hospital Grounds
The historic Riverview Hospital grounds in Coquitlam served as multiple locations in the series, including the Animal Transfer Unit and Black Wing facility. While the buildings themselves are not accessible, the vast grounds are open to the public and offer beautiful heritage gardens and tree collections.
Transportation Tip: It’s best to have a car for this day, as these two locations are both far from Vancouver and also spread apart geographically. There are public transit options that get you close, such as Skytrain and Seabus, but they won’t get you directly to the destination so you would need to rely on buses or taxis for the final leg.
Post-hike nourishment: Drive down the hill into Lonsdale Quay, where you’ll be spoiled for choice for dining options. Wander the public market for a vast selection of nibbles or tuck into any one of the nearby restaurants and pubs. And be sure to save room for one of the best doughnuts you’ll ever have, at Cream Pony in Lolo Lane.

Afternoon: Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve
Drive to the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, where several forest scenes were filmed, including the treasure hunt sequences. The reserve sits within the traditional territory of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, who have been stewards of these lands since time immemorial.
Take the Seymour Valley Trailway, a 10km paved path perfect for walking or cycling. Watch for locations that might remind you of Dirk and Todd’s adventures, but remember that the real treasure here is the old-growth forest itself. The trail is accessible year-round, though winter brings atmospheric mist and rain that creates an appropriately mysterious ambiance. In summer, the cool forest shade provides perfect hiking conditions.
